Job description
FPV Drone Pilot / R&D Technician
Location: Northern New Jersey
Compensation: $80,000–$100,000 base salary
Benefits: Health, dental, vision insurance, and paid time off
We are seeking an experienced FPV Drone Pilot to support flight testing, system integration, demonstrations, and drone R&D at a Northern New Jersey test facility. This is a hands-on technical role—not a cinematic or GPS-assisted camera drone position. You’ll fly FPV aircraft in full manual/acro mode, test new airframes, payloads, hardware, and software, and work directly with engineers to identify issues and improve aircraft performance.
Responsibilities
• Fly FPV aircraft in manual/acro mode for testing and demonstrations
• Execute flight-test plans and document aircraft performance
• Build, repair, configure, and tune FPV drones
• Troubleshoot radio, video, electronics, and flight-control systems
• Review DVR footage and flight logs
• Assist engineers with prototype builds and hardware/software integration
• Support field testing and demonstrations, including travel
Requirements
• Expert FPV pilot in full manual/acro mode
• 2+ years of hands-on FPV experience
• Experience building and repairing 5-inch-class or similar quads
• Comfortable with soldering, firmware configuration, and tuning
• FAA Part 107 certificate or willingness to obtain within 90 days
• U.S. citizenship required
• Willingness to travel to field/test locations
• Preferred Experience
Military/UAS experience, flying without GPS or in degraded RF environments, night operations, electronics troubleshooting, INAV/ExpressLRS, competitive FPV/racing/freestyle, or flight instruction and demonstrations.
